Ballet

Classical Ballet is the foundation of all other dance forms. A secure knowledge and technique in classical ballet is necessary for a student to reach their full potential in any of the other disciplines. The necessary self discipline attained through classical ballet is also an asset to the student throughout their life. All the other disciplines can be taken up at a later stage, but it is very difficult, particularly for girls, to start ballet training later in life. We have had cases in the past where a student has excelled at modern, wanted to pursue a career in dance, only to find that she has left it too late to start ballet training.

At Renaissance The School your child will receive an excellent classical ballet training along with all the other disciplines taught. Although they will be learning a very necessary art form they will still find the lessons very enjoyable. As mentioned under the examination heading, the students are taught using the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) syllabus. For these reasons, we advise they take a class in classical ballet alongside any of the other dance classes offered.

Tap

Tap dance is an extremely fun and energetic way for children to discover and work with rhythms while enjoying different styles of jazz dance. Tap dance also plays an important part in Musicals today. At Renaissance The School, students cover the I.S.T.D Tap syllabus giving them an excellent technique and eventually building up speed and style.

Jazz

Jazz dance remains an essential part of musical theatre; it is sometimes interwoven with other dance styles as appropriate for the particular show. At Renaissance The School the students obtain a very secure technique in Modern Theatre giving them the appropriate grounding should they later decide to pursue a career in Musical Theatre at the same time as finding it extremely exciting learning the many different styles and dancing to well known classics as well as the latest in music of today. Jazz classes are not advisable until the child has an understanding of the basic modern and ballet techniques. This is purely as a safety precaution. Taught properly this can be an exciting dance form much loved by most of the students.
